An Insider’s Guide to Where to Eat, Drink & Stay in Kenya
Kenya is physically beautiful, filled with ancient volcanoes, vast valleys, stunning lakes and an abundance of wildlife. Time slows down here, perhaps due to the area’s mere ancientness (it’s believed that humans’ earliest forebears arose from eastern Africa). And then there are the people: exceptionally warm, kind, hospitable and proud of their beautiful home.
You’ll likely want to return to Kenya several times. Not to worry; you won’t run out of things to see, or experiences to relish. To get the most out of your trip, connect with me. I’ll help you narrow down your options and matchmake you to the regions, activities and lodges that fit your travel style and budget.
Roundup: 8 Unexpected Honeymoon Destinations
You might not instantly think of Japan when considering honeymoon destinations, but that’s where you’re about to be seriously impressed. With thousands of years of deep commitment to hospitality embedded into Japanese culture, you can prepare for an entirely different experience of luxury.
To start, consider staying in a ryokan, or a traditional Japanese inn, like Kayotei, located in the small hot springs village of Yamanaka in the Ishikawa prefecture. The entire property is meant to feel like the home of a friend, with traditional tatami mats and the property’s 10 suite rooms arranged in the traditional sukiya style of a tea ceremony pavilion.
If you’re looking for more of an ocean vibe, check out Sankara Resort on Yakushima Island, which focuses on true relaxation, simplicity and serenity between ocean and rainforest. Its in-house restaurants feature locally caught seafood, and every stay at Sankara begins with a consultation with a butler about your stay to make sure you’re getting the very best of what your visit has to offer. It’s perfect for newlyweds.

An Insider's Guide to Where to Eat, Stay & Play in Morocco
If you’re looking to be enchanted, consider Morocco. The country offers a bit of everything: dynamic multiculturalism, stunning architecture, vibrant cities, beaches, nature escapes…Whatever your travel style, Morocco more than delivers.
Meander the maze-like souks, marketplaces and medinas (historical districts) of the country’s urban centers, from Casablanca to Fez, Marrakech to Essaouira. Savor fragrant tagines, herbal teas, fresh seafood and spices galore. Marvel at the intricate tilework and calligraphy that adorns much of Morocco’s buildings. Relax in a traditional hammam. Hike the Atlas Mountains. You won’t be at a loss for things to enjoy.
Morocco offers so much, and you'll want to build out your itinerary based on the time you have available, as well as your goals for what you want to see. Below, I’ve put together a sample itinerary of a few favorite places to visit, plus where to stay, what to do and where to eat in each location. (The country's allure extends well beyond these spots.) If you're flying from the States and want to stick to a direct flight, you’ll fly into Casablanca, Morocco’s commercial hub. From New York City, it's only a seven-hour flight. You can also opt for a layover somewhere like Amsterdam or Paris.
The below is just a sample of all that’s available, of course, rooted in Fes, Marrakech and Essaouira, each of which has a unique vibe. Depending on your travel style and preferences, you may want to spend more time here, a little less time there. Everything can be customized. (For instance, if you want to spend more time in the desert, we can swap out one of the destinations.) Not to worry: connect with me, and I’ll tailor a dream itinerary specific to you. Regardless, Morocco is calling, and now is the perfect time to travel.
